Re: rear bumper removal tips?

Be warned, you may well find the bolts holding the bumper to the chassis beam will shear off when you undo them, even after much penetrating oil has been applied...
Have a contingency plan, or you will be driving around without a rear bumper for a bit!!

Re: how many 480's are left?

Why are the sunroof models listed separately? It's just an option. Why not list a/c models separately? I think he mixed up S/R with SRS (Supplemental Restraint System -airbags). Because volvo class it as a body style. Like number of doors, Estate, or Saloon. Its definitely sunroof, when you choose ...

Re: Spammers

Seriously, why are we still letting them register and post in the first place? I just recently registered on a snes emulator forum, that uses phpBB, and their countermeasures work. Why can't someone with server access implement some or all of the same. What would you mods rather be doing, pre-approv...

Re: how many 480's are left?

That is the DVLA data, it was a mahoosive spreadsheet, but some guy on the pistonheads website took it and put frontend on it and set up that website.

It is the number of Taxed vehicles, not the number still in existance - hence why the numbers go up and down across the years on the spreadsheet.

Re: Spammers

Suggestion - All new users have to have their first 5 or 10 posts positively approved by a mod before they appear. All spam posters are "simply" deleted. Similar to brand new users being unable to post pictures at the moment. After that they can post freely. That way all the spam posts are held in o...

Blimey, just checked in for the first time in a while (what with not having had a 480 for two years) -just one spammer seems to have necrobumped 200 topics since Sunday from the looks of it. Didn't realise it had got so bad - If you want me to give you a hand, let me know - the more people doing it ...

Re: WAECO - is this good?

Quick search on E-bay shows someone selling the 2 seat kit for £60. But then another one selling them for £130...so dunno if the cheaper ones are genuine? The over-seat ones don't look too bad - would be great for company car drivers where you can't really hack the seats and dash about. Mildly tem...

Re: I think I need an electrician with Volvo expertise-know any?

Just a thought on the intermittent front wiper problems: is it the version that when you go to full throttle with wipers on intermittent they quicken to full speed? If so, maybe there's an issue with the associated wiring? That would be right. As yours is a 1989 car,on the acellerator cable under t...

Re: FOR SALE: Various Bits on E-bay

Few more bits on again this evening - most likely to be of interest are a set of pop up headlamps, and a copper heater matrix (rather than the shitty plastic ones in later cars).
Not much left now :(

Re: Clutch lol

Thats right, the larger clutch obviously has a larger circumference, so the bolt holes are further out toward the edge of the flywheel. I wouldn't try and drill for a different one myself, you'd need an engineering shop to do it. I would recommend getting the flywheel friction surface skimmed, save ...

Re: Clutch lol

There was a bit of mis-information bandied about regarding the flywheel differences - some even by myself being mistaken. Further investigation turned out that the timing marks on the flywheels are identical, the only difference is in the size of the friction surface and the location of the holes fo...
