Back spring, but a lot of other kittle jobs to be done too, and I hardly use it these days, so probably best to move on. I may get another one later though :)

Thanks very much Derek, I really appreciate it.

However Rohan's alternator is of known condition, so common sense says that would be a better bet than an unknown scrapyard one, how much do you want for it Rohan?

Collecting from Glasgow would be no problem at all

It's a screwed up recon I got fitted about 18 months ago. it appears the centre bolt wasn't tightened correctly and the pulley, fan, spacer and body are now quite badly damaged. Perhaps a pulley, fan and spacer would solve the problem, though we aren't sure no other damage has been caused internally.

Hmm, I can get a recon for about £60-70 so thought that would be reasonable for one off a scrapper, what would be more realistic?

I had this until I replaced the exhaust back and middle sections. It wasn't the cat as I still have the original fitted.

When my exhaust was faulty you could hear it three streets away, it was only at certain revs and sounded like someone humming with a comb and paper.

It wasn't the catalytic converter as only the centre and back exhaust sections were replaced curing the problem.

I had a similar problem when I bought my ES, it ended up being something in the exhaust, when the back and center section were replaced the noise vanished permanently

Clutch cable fitting (new 93> type)

I tried to replace the clutch cable today, and while footery it loks straightforward enough, however when everything is lined up at the pedal end, the barrel on the end of the cable will not slide into the hole in the lever on the pedal. It looks easy enough and I've had the cable lying right along ...

I just had to do this :) Pop up the lights then pop the bonnet to lock them up. Remove the outermost screw in front of the popup its a self tapper about 1" long. pull the light unit toward you, there is a clip at the corner but if you pull it straight back the clip will undo itself. Hope that helps

Ok, I think I've got it sorted, It does seem to be charging ok after all, 13.2v at rest droipping to 12.5 with the fan running, and up to 13.6 with the engine revved. I then checked the current, 0.25 amps when nothing switched on. This would drain the battery in about 200 hours i reckon, which recen...
