Re: Winter and 480's

I parked mine nose-up for a week and water came through the front (possibly via fuse box/wiring), filled the plastic snow trays and created puddles in the rear floor :(

Re: Rev hanging issue!

The fuel injection on the 2.0 takes a signal from the speedometer to sense vehicle speed to cut fuel when the throttle is released. My 480 also experiences hanging revs when the speedometer decides to stop working

Re: RPM drops low when engaging clutch

Is the speedo working OK? The 2.0-litre uses road speed data in the injection algorithms.

Also, what do the diagnostic flash codes say?

Excellent post - I also have a 440 and a 460 (to go with the 480) and love them all.

LED conversion kits in exterior lamps have always been not road legal - so this is not a change, merely a clarification.

Re: B20F rough running....ish

If it helps, I have some of Volvo's genuine diagnostic kit that plugs into the socket, to save you from counting flash codes. I also have the kit that plugs into the ECU, so you can take direct readings from it. Even better news, I am in Coventry tomorrow morning from 10am, seeing my accountant, so ...

Re: Volvo Enthusiasts Club

I'm sure plenty of enthusiasts would like to scan the material but I don't fancy having answer to VC UK for copyright infringement, should the material appear online.

The idea is to offer an extra service to VEC club members to help with any faults they have. More details in the next club mag.

Washer jet alternative

I have found an alternative to the original washer jets that are far stronger than the originals; they look very similar and do not hit the underside of the bonnet: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2pcs-Car-Windscreen-Washer-Wiper-Nozzle-Spray-Jet-Universal/183317033204?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trks...

HI - yes it's true. There was about half a tonne of files containing books that have now been ordered and archived - which took me many evenings last winter. For the 400-series, there's 9 large folders, which include parts books and hand-written notes from the training centre back in the day. 200 an...

Anything that is OE quality - do not buy from online sources, where you are unsure of the buyer's repute - there are fakes everywhere. Out of those manufacturers, I recognise Payen, Elring and Corteco.

Re: Oily recirc valve

I dont think so - it's fairly normal to find a light coat of oil in the intercooler on turbo cars, so unless its either pouring out, or really sludgy, I would not worry. Consider that the crankcase ventilation system vents into the turbo under boost.

Provided that it is oil residue from oil mist and not sludge, I would not be worried.

Re: LED quvivlents of the standard bulb sets?

LED conversion bulbs are not legal in ANY exterior lamp housing - they are fine for the interior provided the light does not point directly out of any window. While the test looks mainly for LED/HID conversion headlight bulbs, the MOT should fail all LED conversion bulbs under "incompatible light so...

Re: So, today was the day...

Yes. Conversion lamps are not for exterior lamp use at all. With Halfords and other retailers selling them, strictly speaking, they are breaking the law that is not being enforced, although you'll notice that there will be a warning saying "for off road use"
