RWYB day @ Shakespeare County 6/9/09

Just thought i would mention this in passing as i don't generally use this forum anymore. I've not owned a Volvo 400 for a couple of years now, but looking back at the meetings forum, none of you guys look like you have ever taken your cars down the drag strip. A number of us from another volvo foru...

Aux water pump

Hi guys, I know this topic has been covered before, but i need to ask. My aux water pump has stopped working on my 440 turbo. I am about to sell the car but i need to make a couple of 150 mile journeys this coming weekend. Is the car ok to drive for this kinda distance? Is the aux water pump an esse...

I've got to change a door latch as my driver door lock is now locking itself everytime i close the door. I've also got to change the electric aerial as mast no longer goes up or down. At least i got the car washed already. Oh and i also need to play with the info centre as the display is going on th...

I finally got my car fixed today. I ordered a engine mount from volvo only to find that it was the wrong one. Furthermore, it was also noticed that the bracket the engine mount was attached to had also broken. The bracket had split. This is apparent on the new bracket as an extra plate had been weld...

Looks nice and tidy :) One thing to mention though, is to not bother with a power cap. They don't really do anything other than sap voltage from the battery. If you are getting light dimming at night with the bass notes then it might be an idea to upgrade the "big three" (tb3). tb3 is where you upgr...

The mechanic had another look today and lo and behold found that the rear engine mount was where the oil was leaking from. Richard was spot on :) unfortunately now i will need to replace it. I found this http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=105_769_771&products_id=4456 . I assu...

Mechanic was able to have a look under the car today. He cleaned off the oil from the sump and surrounding areas using brake cleaner and after a quick visual inspection, he couldn't see anything leaking. So i decided to leave the undertray off, to try and pinpoint the source of the leak. I drove to ...

Thanks for your comments so far. I went outside earlier and rechecked the dipstick on the car. The oil level is dead on the max marker. I didn't think i had overfilled, but when i took the reading yesterday, the engine wasn't stone cold. I had another quick look around the area of the turbo, but i c...

Oh no, what have i broke now..... help!

Today I finally took the plunge and changed the oil and filter on my 440 turbo. I am not very hands on with regards to maintenence, i usually get someone else to do it. However i did managed to change the radiator on my car a couple of weeks ago, so i thought this should be easier. I drained the oil...

Looks neat and tidy. Positioning the sub to fire toward the tailgate will quite often give you more bass than other orientations. This is due to the wave forming and reflecting off the tailgate. Ed Bass waves are non directional so shouldnt matter what way the sub is facing. Nor would it make it 'l...

Some nice and simple installs there. One issue i have with my current install is weight. I have the richmod on my car, but i feel it could be significantly faster if the boot was empty. Oh well.... can't have it all i guess.

Thanks for your kind comments. That system was actually built back in 2002. I think it took a couple of weeks to build, but i wasn't particularly good at woodwork then (still not  ) and was just taking my time on it. The box took the longest to build, but was built to last and is actually sitti...

It sounded good and i still do miss the bass from the special efmax box. The current install is a bit more lairy, still not complete either  Ed

Looks neat and tidy, good job. I have made a few installs in the past in my 440. The current one is a tad bigger than previous ones :) If anyone other than dan is interested, then i might post some pics.

Steve, What exactly are you looking for? single sub? pair of subs? 10/12/15/18? How much space are you willing to give up? Half the boot? the whole boot? all the space behind the b pillar? How much power do you have for it? 100w? 1000w? What kind of bass are you looking for? reference sound quality?...

speakers? I personally wouldn't bother with running any full range speakers in the rear. I would rather run cabling for an amp and have a sub in the boot, Dan the 480 man style. I would then drill holes into the parcel shelf and cover it up with acoustic cloth, this will let the bass into the cabin....

My engine is fine as far as i'm aware (touch wood). It used to have a tapping noise when it first started up in the mornings, but this stopped for a while when i got the cambelt changed... presumably the tensioner? Admittedly my car is due a service now (110k), but i don't think it will affect the p...

Also thinking maybe the boost solenoid is playing up? The boost backs off slightly and then builds up again... maybe opening and then closinga nd then opening (i understand the solinoid is a kind of bleed valve right?) The car goes well enough but the pull of it in 4th and 5th when you get it well ...
