Volvo 480 S - 1.7 White Facebook

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Volvo 480 S - 1.7 White Facebook

Post by Helmert3 » Thu Dec 10, 2020 12:00 am

Hello everyone, after a few enqurieis that unfortunately havent gotten very far I noticed this has popped up on Marketplace: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 139957828/

Personally not a huge fan of the modifications from what I can see, as I am a bit of a stock fan (atleast in terms of most aesthetics), still at the end of the day it is an S Spec, and the price does seem high for an S Spec car, especially with what ive seen othes sell for. Wouldnt be too hard to get some normal bulbs, some steelies or alloys, and a new gearknob.

Ill dump the photos from the listing here:

Looks utterly wank.
Stupid seller wrote:"My car is rusty with flat white paint. I had better put some illegal lights on it to ensure it never passes another MOT and install a dildo for a gear stick or it will never sell".

That gear stick is a bit....unusual, is it not?!

Yeah, that’s a heck of a lot for a faffed about with S, even a low mileage one. No mention of any history? 1.7?

Those lights:

Plenty of opportunities for Jeff to chip away and knock the price down to £500 here I bet.

Only done about 5000 miles since 2006. Probably because it keeps needing work (I know how that goes!). Excessive corrosion in 2019 but not ‘20. Lots spent....or not? Someone has spent money fixing many fails by the looks of it. Probably what they’re trying to recoup. Looks like they may have only had it over summer and too many things need doing, so here it is for someone else to take on. .....tale as old as time.

We have seen that one for sale not so long ago. I remember commenting on the 460 wheels; arguably one of the least offensive modifications I spy. Ann Summers included.

Another hot potato car.

“Shall I spend some money welding these sills, thus preserving my classic car? Nah, I’ll spend the money on some tasteless LED headlamps instead.”

you're correct sir, we talked about here

So, assuming it sold on ebay for its £1650, it would appear that the sextoy gear lever and shite headlamps are valued at over a £1000....

I wouldn't even go £500... Probably half that.

Or because the speedo has broken and its not clocking the miles up....

Take a good look people, this is a car on its death spiral. The idiot that bought it could have potentially saved it, but instead spent their money on stickers and shite tat. All of that needs reversing; then the stuff he should have spent the money on needs fixing (lets start with the sills.
Now, to do that takes about the same amount of money he paid originally for the car.
So, if the car does sell, it'll go to another idiot interested in "a kewl old skool ride" and the downward spiral will continue

Does the price include a fake Burberry check cap, flashy jewellery, a baggy track suit and white trainers?

I wouldn't even call that modified , all that can be removed in an afternoon.

LED lights look well on a car that actually been Modified. The wheels are on par with a lot of ugly stock wheels the 480 came with. But if its solid underneath... cheap to rectify.

But yeah, probably needs his ebay account rights taken away for that ribbed EXTREME gearstick.... jhezus

I do think you are being unfair on the designer. I think it's ribbed design is perfect for it's intended use.

I’m pleased by the news! How about a full thread with progress? (Unless of course, I’ve missed it already?)

The key takeaway from this thread is that I would pay good money to watch James offering his frank opinions on other people's cars, as per the 'James May Roasts' series on DriveTribe.

Come to think of it, our James already has the hair and the questionable shirts, all he needs is a camera
