Orange Richmod
Hello to all...
When I bought my turbos last year I was talking to the chap who's car it was and I mentioned I wanted it faster.. He mentioned some ecu's he had... He mentioned they were Roboumods but I contacted Robou and he verified they are not his work.. His has wires coming out of it...
I wonder if the person who sold me the cars has mixed it up with a Richmod.. The guy was into his renaults.. My car has a different colour Ecu so I can't try it, something to do with a different camshaft?
I have checked the forum and I found a post with pictures.. Unfortunately the pictures have expired...
How do I know it's a Richmod...
I read in the text that there will be typex on the bolts.. There is red typex or some substance on one of the bolts..
Cheers
Jay

Re: Orange Richmod
There is a company that do/did work on these ECUs called EFI parts
http://www.efi-parts.co.uk/index.php?productID=167
If it isn't a Robou or Richmod then it may be from them

Cheers for the reply...
That name came up when I browsed as well.. They just take the boost cut out or something so I'm lead to believe...
Obviously they are wrong for my car as it has a different coloured ECU..
I just wanted clarification before I tried to pass it on...
Cheers

Re: Orange Richmod
Be aware that firstly they make the ECU ignore any indication of the real turbo pressure on which it determines the ignition timing and by the connection with the Jetronic the injection timing and secondly they make you buy a different boost control.
This procedure overrules the build-in safety protection of the ECU and may damage your car.
If your only wish is to raise the turbo pressure and you do not care about any corresponding changes in mapping there is a much easier solution which I communicated somewhere on the forum. It does not make you buy any different parts and leaves the motor management but for the safety precaution intact.

I brought a orange ecu which I'm told is a richmod for my 92 turbo after being quite sure mine was orange now I have received the it and gone to fit I have found that mine is I think purple or maybe dark red plus looking at the 2 together the Orange one is smaller with a plastic cover an the one on the car is bare metal an bigger have I made a complete balls up an bought the wrong ecu????

Re: Orange Richmod
could you be looking at the wrong thing ?
the turbo has 2 ecu 's the boost ecu which is to the left of the drivers footwell and has a rubber tube attached to it as well as an electrical connector. . It should be black plastic.
to the right of the drivers footwell there is a larger all metal (silvery colour) engine ecu which has an electrical connector but no black rubber tubing.
easiest way is post up a photo of both units then we can help without guessing

Re: Orange Richmod
AFAIK you should have a matching pair of colours.
For posting pictures you first need to upload them to Photobucket or similar.

Re: Orange Richmod
In order to get things right...
The Turbo has three Electronic Control Units, the EZ210K which handles ignition and turbo, the Jetronic which is mainly responsible for the injection and the CEM for all the electrical goodies.
The first two are where we are talking about here.
They do not per sé have matching colors. The purple EZ210K has a matching brown Jetronic, orange has an orange, red has a red and blue has a green. They appeared in this sequence.
Orange was introduced with the new camshaft, red amongst others with the bigger clutch and various functions of the Jetronic (auxiliary water pump) and blue when lambda sonde and cat became mandatory.
The introduction of orange came at chassis# 540197, red at #567600 and blue I do not know.
The pairs communicate and neither part should be exchanged for a different color. Nor should a different pair be used, think of the variable funtions of the Jetronic and the ignition timing of the EZ210K. The car may run, but definitely not as it should.
The only exception: From red to blue little changed, mainly the checking on the presence of the lambda sonde. So if you do away with cat and sonde the red combination may be used.
Each mod requires some soldering inside. Only the EZ210K is modded, so open it up and have a look. When the ECU has just one board inside, only the turbo has been manipulated, nothing has been done about the mapping, regardless of what you have been told. This can only be accomplished by exchanging the microcontroller and no tuner I know ever went through this procedure. Like above: It may run, but not as it should. There should be a second board of some type with an eprom inside.

Re: Orange Richmod
Hi Robou..
I did a bit of homework mainly off of this forum about Ecu's.. The research Rich and yourself did is far superior than the other probably dangerous option.. It is why I sourced a Roboumod for my Turbo.. Hopefully it will be on the road next week MOT pending I just need to sort some air pipes out first...
Something has been done to the other Ecu I have as it has red tipex on a screw and it is a double boarded one..

Yes it dose
Re: Orange Richmod
Thanks for that... I've seen another on Facebook an that has red typex on one screw as well.. At least I know what I have now.. Thanks..
I recall orange can only go with orange.. Maybe an option for you is to sell it and get a Roboumod for yours..
I hope you get it sorted because it's a good way to unleash the real power of the car, safely as well..
Cheers

Re: Orange Richmod
I don't believe it... I have been putting the car back together and I decided to check my boost Ecu and blow me down it has red typex on one screw.. I believe a Richmod is already fitted to the car.. It is a purple ECU..
So now I have a Roboumod to put on the car.. I also have 2 Richmods Orange and Maroon..
I also discovered the lamba sensor had been disconnected so it's on an open circuit.. Idles fine though...
We shall see next week...

Re: Orange Richmod
All this fuzz about a red mark on one of the screws...It is present on most of the EZ210Ks and if it is not there probably the guy from Bosch ran out of paint or had a day off.
Or the ECU has been tampered with, may be by some modder...
The only way you can tell you have some way of mod inside is by opening the ECU and have a look inside.

I'm beginning to think the red paint is more of a red herring than anything. I have the same red paint but no indication that there's any modification. Hmmph!

Re: Orange Richmod
I just put two and two together and came up with 5.. It's just the few mentions of Richmods that have the red typex...
Obviously you have seen a lot more Ez's than I have Robou..
Whatever it is in the car it's coming out for the Roboumod next week after the mot..
This might seem the daftest question ever but is there an easy way to disable the turbo through a switch of some kind...
