IMPORTANT: Forum issues
This morning, the forum admins had a meeting to discuss a few issues affecting the forum, namely the issue with spammers and the issue with the moderators not being around as much as they'd like to be.
To this end some decisions have been made and actions taken.
Firstly, it's with regret we have agreed to close the guest posting facility on the marketplace forums and the non-volvo problem car forum - We didn't want to become a closed community, requiring registration before being allowed in, but the increase in abuse of this facility has left us with no choice.
On the second issue, Daniel and I have both been very very busy at work and haven't been able to dedicate as much time as we used to to the day to day moderation of the forums, for which we're sorry, but that's life. We have decided therefore to enlist some help by enrolling a new moderator to share the load.
Many names were discussed, but the person we feel would bring the most level-headed attitude to the post at this time was Wayne, aka LaserOwl. Once discussed, this decision was unaminous, so please do wish Wayne well in his new role on our forums!

Many thanks for all the kind words of welcome to my new post.
I hope really that I won't have that much to do, since we are all
pretty much well behaved and respect the forum and each other.
cheers
Wayne

Few people here might have noticed there are few projects going on with us enthusiasts with our cars(Martin, Volviz, Bakke). Now our 'diaries/blogs' are all over the board.
Would you (admins) atleast consider a separate area for "Projects" where users could gather even their smallest projects(brake jobs, suspension, painting, popups gone bad etc) thus making it an infobank for someone whose about to do the same kind of job. There are several 'guides' here made by members on various issues, but they are extremely hard to find. as they're everywhere.

Well, I think this is a lost cause, but I'll post it anyway.
There's been no real development in this forum for quite awhile. No new areas on the forum despite the numerous requests made by members. When will the spammers get the foot? There is a solution widely available at phpbb support pages to get rid of them. It's just a matter of webmasters will to be bothered. If the webmaster is incapable, please let someone else take care of it?
New forum isn't be the answer - it would take years and years to get as widely known and used as this. Also, it really wouldn't be Volvo-480-Club-Europe forum, wouldn't it?

Well the spammers post are being cleared on a daily basis, I am doing my best. If I have even limited access to the admin control panel (there is one available which I have tried and tested on my own forum) which would enable me to delete users an not just their posts, activate new user accounts after they have been reviewed etc etc.
All it would take is to install easymod0.3.0 and follow the installation notes here This takes about 10 minutes to install and cuts the installation of time of other mods from 30 – 40 minutes to 5 minutes.
Then install the Junior Admin Mod all that needs doing is uploading the files/folders to the relevant forum directories and easymod does all the code modification. This mod would give moderators access to areas of the admin control panel specified by the admins, e.g just give us access to the User Management area where we can delete/deactivate/activate/etc users.
This is the easiest option short of giving the moderators full admin abilities.
And just for the record I have discussed this with Daniel, he does not have access to the relevant directories to install mods but is happy for the new forums to be set up in Gaz approves, I haven’t been able to contact him yet.

Well it would be easier if the spammers bots can't register to the forum. It can be prevented also You know the image containing numbers or letters and you'd have to type the characters to a field when registering. It would take a lot of spammers out of the picture. But as you said there is next to nothing you can do, or anyone else that are actively here...

Well there is a mod which times how long it takes someone to type in information into the registration page as spammers just copy and paste their details into the page they complete it a lot faster than a genuine user the mod pics up on this, it will reject their registration and ban their IP.
