Never been a fan of the Cabrio, but...

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

...i was looking for some 850 Saloon BTCC pics on Google image search, and these two came up. I know they're only drawings, but they make the Cabrio look pretty neat, and i've never seen those pics before so i just thought i'd post them here...

Anyone see TopGear lastnight, all you need is an angle grinder, tent frame and some old canvas and hey presto, 480 cabrio! :D

Just avoid carwashes! :cryhard:

Seriously nice pics. No one on the forum tried a DIY cabrio yet?

Recessed Pollux with Deep lip in a not too chavvy chrome though  If Volvo made Pollux like that, i'd make an exception...

The sketched image at the top, I like, I like alot actually, but the real images of a produced Cabrio don't do it for me. Same as all the other real pictures I've seen of Cabrio, I'm just not a big fan of it.

Can't put a mark on what I don't like. It does have big womens appeal in my opinion though.

The sketched drawing at the top make it look slick, stylish and aggressive, it's the style of art and the fast pen-to-paper lines. Plus I love them dished wheels! :volvo:

ford looking copy here in NZ
Were Ford still making the Capri over there or was this just another case of using the name for a completley different car? Never knew of anything after the original ones stopped being built in the early eighties, I know it's a Cabrio, but I can't help thinking it really doesn't appeal like the originals did.

The reason it never materialised was that the Coventry based company that was supposed to convert the tintops (in Holland) went belly up the week before the Convertible was to be launched in Holland in 91. :badmood:
Believe me, all the promotional stuff was in the showrooms, the press had driven the lousy thing and the ads were ready to be run....
:cryhard: :cryhard: :cryhard:
Volvo axed the thing as the receivers were insisting on a very serious payment for them to release the tools & jigs (which were Volvo's anyway!!).

SO BLAME THE BLOODY :kill: POMS FOR SINKING THIS BEAUTIFUL CAR....
Knows that tidal pools are standard with every 480 you buy, as are skating rings in winter.

One could also argue that doing business with a company in such a shoddy state of finances would be a bad idea and throw the blame back on the Swede's :dispute:

It is very very very difficult indeed to drive a cabrio without looking like a complete ponce anyway, so if you think about it guys, it's probably for the best!
Now lets all just be happy and get along!

That all depends on the how and where you're driving it. I mean, I didn't feel like a ponce at all driving my rental Mustang convertable along highway 1, or my gf's mom's LeBaron convertable along anywhere in LA. It's all in the speed and the location

Speaking of LeBarons, that second drawing does make it look like one. Which is not a compliment. I like the photos better.
