Emergency Tool kit

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Emergency Tool kit

Post by jifflemon » Sat Jul 22, 2023 5:19 pm

One for discussion;

Do people carry them? Or rely on breakdown cover?
My tool choice goes thus: can I
Change a tyre
Swap a drive belt
Add coolant / secure a hose.
Change a terminal
Change bulbs
Check for voltage
Pull a fuse
Illuminate stuff
Secure something.

I always carry

1ltr of engine oil
2ltr still water (emergency coolant)
bulb kit
Screwdriver
Spare tyre
Blue Volvo bag with wheel jack and brace

Oh and the 3-decade old first aid kit that came with the car…

add a length of 'stout wire' to hold up a broken exhaust pipe, had one fail without warning!!!

also a few lengths of wire, more so on th eolder car as I can 'hot-wire' if I need to

All completely sealed, expiry dates vary depending on the item inside the kit from 1995 to around 1997 leading me to believe this kit did in fact come with the car in 1993.
