Dashboard Removal

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Dashboard Removal

Postby Bakke » Fri Mar 10, 2006 8:35 am

My interiour radiator (for the interiour heating) is leaking. So I have to remove the whole dashboard to replace it.

I've searched the forum, but haven't find any useful information.

Anyone who can point me the bolts I have to unscrew to take it all out.

Thanks

Bakke

I'll try to make some pictures during the process for an how-to manual

You don't have to remove the dash to remove it!

remove carpet around center lower part of dash / heater vent
remove turbo ecu (if u got one)
remove plastic funnels
think it has some bolts holding it
remove pipe clips from inside engine bay
pull it all out from inside and watch water spill everywhere

You can also look here on the site at "Club Info" --> "Downloads" Download "the Volvo 400 Service Manual (Bodywork)".

This is a good explanation of how to remove several bodypart, also the dash.

Good luck by the way, Is allways an interesting job to do, The car isn't that big you know

1) remove wiperarms & plastic cover underneath.
2) undo screws just below the windscreen (yes, outside the car)
3) remove the steering wheel
4) remove dash cover incl guages (like when one repairs the guages)
5) remove kickplates under the dash & glovebox
6) undo the wiringloom fittings (of the dash wiring loom)
7) remove the center console (loosen the screw at the top)
8) remove the covers on the sides of the dash and undo the screws underneath
9) pull away the dash.

:boom:

Have fun

You don't have to remove the whole dash to get the heater matrix out.

Is your dash damaged?

Let me guess....mount it above your bed so that no one can pinch the car (newest anti theft device; removable dashes...)

the plastic becomes very brittle after many years, so there is no solution for removing the vents without damaging some of them.

try to heat the vents up (but not too much because the upper "skin" of the dashboard (the grey one) will detach from the black plastic very fast)

it is easier to remove the air vents with the surround frame

dont try the thing with the screwdriver.

if you have already removed the dashboard the you can simply push the clips from the inner side of the dashboard and so remove the surrounds

Bakke,

I still have a complete dash home.
If you're interested PM me here or on the french forum.

With this extra dash, you can practice yourself before risking damage to your dash.
