Clips holding door panels on '95 models

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Clips holding door panels on '95 models

Post by JeanPete » Thu Feb 23, 2006 11:40 am

Hello, everyone !

I have a problem with clips holding door panels on doors. But let's have a look : on 480's until '94, the door is held by several clips, on the bottom of the door. Here is a screenshot, from the partsbook (page 576 of the PDF document) ; we're talking about the piece n° 29 on the picture :

But on my '95 GT, it's quite different. There aren't these clips, but two different !

Image

As you can see, I've broken one of the two clips.

Here is one on driver side (sorry, for LHD !)...

... which is different than the passenger side ! No doubt, we're really talking about a 480 !

On this picture, I can read on the black piece which hold the clip :
VOLVO >ABS<

466293 1 (a "4" replaces with this "1" on the second stand)

The Nederlands
The problem is that the door panel isn't well held. So a horrible noise squeals ! So I asked my parts man at my local Volvo dealer to order several clips, but he didn't listen to me, and received usual '87 to '94 clips. Although the part number couldn't get found on VADIS, he advised me to send an email to Volvo France, who didn't find anything and didn't answer me. Just my luck ! I drive a Renault 480 and I'm ordering pieces at Ford...

So does anyone know this clip and its reference, please ? You can't imagine how funny it could be to arrive at my Volvo deal dealer, saying : "Well, order me four clips which number is XXXXXXX, please !" Thanks !

Only a guess but it looks to me like they've been glued onto the door panel, possibly a previous owner broke the original clips had those ones from another car and glued them there to try and stop the panel flapping around...

Thanks for answering ;-) but my '95 GT isn't a single case. On the doors, the holes for '87 to '94 clips are obstructed by some little plastic cards (have no picture, sorry). And the '95 clips are on others '95 French cars, not especially GT.

Your clips aren't mentioned in the parts manual but look identical to the clips that hold the tim moulding above the rear side windows
(These have the following partnumber: 3121517) or the ones that hold the trim between the tailgate and the side windows (partnumber 3923487).
Even according to the manual these should be the same....

Perhaps an ideal item to get from a scrapyard?
Hope this helps you.

According to Vadis the partnumber you quote doesn't exist but my experience has learned me that this often happens when items exist.
The look original factory fitted to me.

Thanks a lot for all your guesses, Volvomania, but I yet verified all of them. Clips under tim moulding above rear windows and grey clips holding trim between the tailgate and the side windows are very similar, indeed, but I've already tried both (got from a scrapyard ;-)) and they are too big, so that they can't enter in door holes.

Thanks, one more time !

Sorry to jack the thread, but I could do with a few of the standard door panel clips if anyone has spare? Know they're prob reasonable down Volvo dealer, but one of those non-esentials I never get around to.

Cheers,
Stu.

BTW: Going through a heap of spares last Saturday I came across a brand new door panel identical to yours.

What you can perhaps do is, if the older style holes are still in your door, fit the old style clips.

I had this exact same problem, I couldn't get the clips from volvo either. I did try the old style bottom clips (pennies from any dealer!!)(just prise out the blanking grommets in the door). They KIND of worked but not ideal.

A couple of days ago I removed the trim from around the bonnet release handle and found 2 clips which match the 1995 door clips exactly. I used one of these on the door and it fits perfectly....no more squeaks.....happy ending :D
