Centre Vent Removal

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Centre Vent Removal

Post by Dancing Demon » Wed Apr 19, 2017 10:24 pm

I am sure there are posts about this - but I cannot find any!

How do I remove the actual 'vent' from the centre console surround. This is the vent unit which swivels from side to side, and then there is the centre lever which allows the 'fins' to point either up or down.

Many thanks

Chris

It prises out, just like the other vents do.

You just have to be very very careful since, as I am sure you know, the plastic of the dash surround that holds it in place is very brittle.

Why do you need to remove it?

I've used Mannol silicon spray on the plastics and it makes them a bit less brittle. Does a great job on rubber seals and hoses as well.

Not a fan of silicones.... my paint man would batter me if I dared use them.

For rubber seals, this is pretty much unbeatable

O gawd, just been reading up on my sins, I shall have to eat humble pie when I arrive at the bodyshop this afternoon. He'll be pleased to know that I've only done 2 of our cars, and 90% of the 2 spray cans went inside the cars or on bits that had been removed and taken into the nice warm conservatory. Only 10% to worry about.....

Thanks for replies.

The reason fro removing the vent is it is broken at the back in as much as the fins all go in different directions.

Kind regards

Chris
