New lick of paint

After putting my wheels off my Turbo in the shed and the weather turning better I thought it was a good idea to get them out and refurb them.
As my Turbo is white I thought I would paint them a dark grey .
I have started on two wheels to see if it works out before doing all four. Here are some pics of the stages .

Tyre and valve removed.

Rubbed down to primer and bare alloy.

Coat of acid etch primer.

I then used a grey primer followed by lots of rubbing down and stopper .

After many more hours of the above and a final prime the top coat was applied.

Next thing was to get some new decals made for the caps and fit.

One more thing to do later is to apply a 2pk lacquer and let them harden.

what paint did you use for the grey. top job by the way, your car must be showroom. i ask because some types of aerosol paint react i think with 2pk which i can only find in clear coat ,primer aerosol.

They look fantastic Kev, being picky, is the centre cap slightly off centre?

if it went on ok it wont react. looks fine. just some paint shops told me they hate cars with halfords type paint repairs because it repels whatever they use now when its being sprayed.could not apply now though as paint changes with environment emissions etc. i think they use water based paint nowadays whatever that is. i have some 2k laquer aerosol but havent any spray equipment, i dont know what type of colour paint to use below it.
that looks top class job youve done, are you going to cut the finish with some rubbing compound kev. probably still hardening yet though.

Yes you are right but I only painted them so blame Volvo's wheel manufacturers .

Ted I am waiting for them to harden although being 2pk they should be better than standard. In fact they said I had to spray within 24 hrs or it would harden in the can and become solid and unusable !
At the moment I have nearly done the other two wheels so I will need to decide on tyres.I have new ones fitted to the Vesa's so do I swap over or buy more and have two sets of wheels ?

I am pleased with the effect it changes the look of the car . Now I have four spare Vesa's minus tyres . They are in pretty good nick though would deserve a refurb back to original condition. So get busy or sell to someone else ?

Wow! The wheels look immense! Great to see them contrast with the white, like that!

Got myself a white celebration model and I was looking for ideas to make it stand out but not too brash!
