Volvo 480 Club Europe

Although I dont need any immediately I thought I might as well ask what tyres each of you have.

Standard size for my ES is 185/65 R14 with V/H

(My tyres are H although I went looking online put in my vehicle and it said I should need V :s)

Anyway On my car I have:

2 Goodyear NCT5 on the front
1 Goodyear Eagle GA on the rear
and a cheaper tyre opposite the GA

Just wondering which ones you use (from your experience with your car) what is best for cruising, english weather etc.

And where you get them from - also can you tell me which ones you have (V or H rated)

Obviously you guys with pimped out 480s the specs will be slightly different but it would be nice to know what brand/model you use and trust.

michellein pilot sports II all the way around on the old 480.....bit soft, and have lots of road noise from the tread pattern, but sticks like sh*t to a woolly blanket.

This year my car is sporting some 'Nankang' 185/65/14 H something or others. They're pretty good and pretty cheap. I like them and make a good replacement to the Goodyear Eagle venturas I usually fit. These cars tend to munch through fronts. I picked up a set of 4 for £100 from: http://www.mytyres.co.uk They have little tyre rating / reviews there which can be helpful.

Then drive them somewhere to get fitted. Normally costs about £10 per wheel for fitting, valve, balancing and disposal. Anything less is a bonus.

Had a look at mytyres and blackcircles I don't need them now but just thought it would be good to know what you guys have for me and for future buyers so all the info is in one place

The thing I didn't like about the german tyre rating on mytyres is that the ratings go from 1 (best) to 6 (worst) which is a bit confusing at first

I've got T1-R's on the back of the Lotus... problem is they replaced Michelin Pilots so, can't say it's made a hude difference. They are damn good tyres tho, and grip well, but you can sling them around with some predictability too. For the price, I think the T1-R's are a great option, and by most accounts, a progression from the T1-S.

The previous owner fitted Nankangs to the front, and they are SHITE... I hate them and they are useless in the wet. Avoid... even on a budget. (IMHO, soz Dan, but I really do hate 'em!)

I have 3 federal super steel and one dunlop. The car is like its on rails.

I am of course comparing these tyres (17") to other tyres i've had (13,14,15 inch) - So they should be better.

My taurus have 4 different designs of michelin energy on them. Quite a feet. Handles well though.

I'm currently sporting some Yokohama C. drive 185/60 R14 82H's on the front, lovely and grippy and the change from shagged out cheapos that were on before was like night and day, the threads about wheelspin make me think there's something with my engine, because i just dont suffer from it very much, really do recomend these, they were kind on the wallet from mytyres too!

Just recently replaced the rears with Toyo Proxes CF-1 185/60 R14 82H (yeah i know not t1-r or S or anything, but the only proxes i could get for atlas rims!) and cant really comment, other than to say the rear feels a bit better having gone from cheapo ones, i'll be swapping them to the front soon, then we'll see if they're as good as the yoko's.

One day when i'm rich i'll have money to buy a continuous stream of goodyear eagle f1's, some day....

And as for speed rating, i feel pretty happy with H - thats up to 130mph, because to get that rating the tyre has to survive something like 10 minutes continuously at that speed, something which i dont see me ever doing, even on a track!

there's always a miriad of choices for tyres tho!

I have Goodyear Eagle Touring 195/55/R15 on Cetus rims

Ran Michelin Pilot Primacies for years.They last 70k plus and are fantastic in all weathers.

I now have Good Year Eagle NCT5s and they are absolute slidesville!Shite!

Since when does Michelin make those tyres in 14"? As far as I know, the the smallest tyresize of the Pilot Sport was 16 or 17"....


I had those Michelin Pilot Sport tyres on my 480T, great tyres, very stucky and low on noise. Mine were 205/40/17

got the goodyear nct5 all round on mine at the moment, nothing special really they do the job, just don't push it, especially in the wet!

Got VEDESTEIN QUATRAC 2 at the mo. In rear they are quite bald but still got some grip. I'm planning to put on Toyo T1R.

Nankang NS1's for chunkier fitments i.e. 185 60 R14
NS2's for profiles below 55's

These tyres are perfect for the UK as they perform best in wet conditions and you don't have to pay extra for the Yokohama name. And! if you know the manager of a tyre wholesaler you can get them for £18 a piece.

Federal 595's are so hot right now and have an unusual tread patern that looks mean as fuck on a road car. They're no more expensive than Nankangs either.

No198 is rolling on Continental Sport Contacts at the mo and I have to admit that it was money down the drain as they haven't performed any better than the Nankangs (and they are 4X more expensive.

T3 has Yokohama Advan Sport 225/45/R17 at the back and 215/45/1R17 at the front.
also are the front tires slided (cutted cross to the rotation)
This improves braking aswel as accelerating grip.

Continental Premium Contact 2's on the front, and whatever was on it when I bought it on the rear.
