Autobox and Pwrsteering fluid recomendation please...
Just bought new Autobox Transmission Fluid and Power Steering fluid from main Volvo dealer - OUCH!!!
Can anyone advise if I can get cheaper but same quality at Halfords etc?
This is what Volvo offer.....
VO1161744 Volvo N/STK Transmission - 4ltrs £30
VO1161529 Volvo Power Steering Fluid - 1ltr £15
This is what Halfords offer......
Halfords Automatic Transmission & Power Steering Fuid DIII - £5.79 per litre (is combined/dual purpose fluid)
Does anyone know if this DIII stuff will actually be okay to use (or is there alternative if not) as the staff there didn't know their steering from they bodily fluids...
Cheers, Stu.

The power steering fluid is Dextron II ATF.
The autobox needs Dextron III ATF. If you use the Volvo stuff then you can be sure that it's compatable. As it's impossible to remove all the ATF (you drain just about 1/2 of it) compatability can be a problem.
You would be better going to partco or some other motor factors, as they will have a list of ATF and will be able to find one that should be compatable.

Can highly recommend Slick50's Dextron II-compatible power steering fluid!
It coats all the moving bits with a bit of PTFE in true slick50 stylee, which shuts up noisy bearings and plugs up any mini-holes etc.
