red bar on info centre

Hi All,

have been having a very quiet night at work, so i pulled the info centre to clean and check out a few bits and pieces.
I specifically wanted to check the 'wiring' to the third bar from the bottom on the fuel gauge, as its always been blank.
under a magnified lamp the techies at work use, i noticed that the wiring to this had 'gone through'...ie not making a contact at one side, so i fixed it.....have just put it back into the dash, and it lights up RED!!!
is this normal? i thought the bars were all green?
is this a case of volvo standardisation?

Don't quote me, but I think it has been mentioned on here before that the info centres on earlier models had a red bar at the bottom, probably to alert you to the imminant danger!

The original infocentres had the bottom 2 bars as red, quite a rarity (I prefer it that way). But this third bar - is it a true bar? All my 480s have always had the bottom 2 bars, then a slight gap, then the rest of the guage, giving the idea of a missing bar (although in reality I don't think it's a true bar's size). yet the fact you connected something and it lights up is interesting, and definately cause for a look on my own infocentre one day to see if it's the same - if it is, perhaps it's "disconnected" deliberately at source?

Same here with the slight gap, except i have the two bottom red bars cos i nicked the screen from an 87 model :D also, my full beam warning light is blue rather than white. Much prefer them that way :D

my full beam light is blue also.
Its only the third from the bottom thats red....all the time, then goes out when the fuel drops below....i always thought it should be blank, but then if thats the case, you wouldnt know when that bar had emptied...if you see what i mean?
i dont know if this is the way it should be, but its interesting that chris has the bottom two red!
it does lend more weight to the fact ive always thought this car was made up from more than one....its only an S variant, but has the B18ep engine, CEMIII, info centre, oil/volt dials etc....seems to be more in it than other S versions ive seen....but saying that...ive added the half leather interior, so its not that hard to see how it happens!
typical vovlo though!! everything the 'same'
