Heaters starting to sound dodgy

Squeaky belts on first start up, having to scrape the inside of the car, winter must be coming..

Naturally first thing I do is put the heating on full blast to try defrost the window, now if the cars sitting still or going in a straight line it sound fine but if I'm driving and turn the wheel it makes a really weird noise, I can't seem to find any problems with it or understand how the steering effects it, dont suppose anyone would have any insite as to why?

It shouldn't.....

I've found that 99% of the time, pulling the heater out, scooping all the dead leaves and crap out, then putting some fresh grease on the the fan bearing gives a wonderfully silent, non-squeeking heather blower.

Its about an hours work.

It's weird, sounds almost like a plastic bag rustling around 😩

How would I go about taking it out?

Remove lower dash panel, remove glovebox. Remove screws and wires from heater motor.

This wont let you fix it nicely and grease it but you might also find that there are leaves in it. You can go in with a vacuum from the engine bay and suck out some debris. Fan air inlet is on the UK passenger side, at the back, next to the wipers.

I've noticed the floor on the passenger side has got all wet again, it's definitely water so I thought maybe it's the something to do with the fan? So I've pulled all the carpet up and it's soaked so I've pulled the drain plugs out to try drain the worse out and went about pulling all the underside panels off and they're all wet too, while fishing around I found a piece of paper wedged in the air vent which possibly could be the weird noise I've been hearing? I'll find out later when I drive home but also the drain hole for the bit where the fan is under the bonnet was plugged up and filled with water the other day (now cleared out) I think the water was making its way into the fan and just going through the small gap where the fan is bolted on
So hopefully I can clean all the water out and no more leaks!

Can confirm that it was this piece of paper that was making the weird noise! 😂 not quite sure how steering effected it but with it now removed the fan sounds normal again!
Not sure how it got there but looks like it's been there a while 🤔

That roughly translates to “product review…..paint control card type 480”

My guess is that was left over from production at the factory, probably by accident. Especially seeing as that’s Dutch language.

Cleaning out the drains in the winscreen wiper area as you have done will likely solve your problem. Its a 480 so there are likely other leaks but those blocked drain (a very common thing) cause lots of trouble.

How interesting! Little bit of history for it then 😂

Just gotta go through the faff of trying to dry the sponge under the carpet now as the car has a horrible damp smell 😩

Produkt beoordeling lakstr[aat] = product review lacquering line

I think it is a snippet of a checklist used by quality control at NedCar, which inadvertently ended up in the internals of a 480.
