2 litre RECALL on burning oil problem !!!!!!

Post by felyx » Fri Apr 04, 2008 4:10 pm

hi people i was looking at the honest john back room section and have cut and pasted this

:::::Poor Dutch build quality led one magazine to dub it 'the coupe from hell'. But the car was progressively improved and almost all problems will have been solved 'in service'.

Seals above rear side windows start to leak.
What to Watch Out For
Cheap by 2007 and not many survivors.

Oil-consuming 2.0 litre versions may have required 'mod 2371', carried out in-service by Volvo dealers.

Look for at least four years' official Volvo dealer servicing to make sure 'in-service' improvements were carried out.

Check aircon blows cold (if fitted). Make sure no water under the carpets.
Recalls
1994: 480 2.0 litre (VIN 586300-590058): airbag may deploy accidentally. 1996: 480 (1991-1995): fire risk from faulty electrical connections.

So what is 'mod 2371' i wonder and if you need it doing it's still free at a volvo dealer and may be why your 2 litre fails emmisions on the mot

i had a real problem with a 2 litre on emmsions i.e new exhaust new oil and air filter new lambda sensor and new throttle position switch , and then it only passed because the tester let me hold the revs at 5000 rpm !!!!!!

It was a complete engine change I believe. This is determined by the colour of the dipstick. One colour means it's the rectified engine, the other means that it's an oil drinker. Can't remember the colours off the top of my head though

I remember something about the airbag, but either way its recommended you get the airbag changed after 10 years anyway. Dont know if it would be free. Chances are it wont because it isnt in production anymore, and the last model was over 10 years a go (just guessing the years, I know after 10 years Jaguar stop producing replacement parts for models and hand the responsibility over to the Classic Car part of Jaguar). But worth asking i guess, you dont know until you ask!! :D

There are a number of mechanical devices which increase sexual arousal, particularly in women. Chief among these is the Volvo 480 ;)

New version of the B20F engine
The code numbers of the new B20F are 208 (for manual transmission cars) and 209 (for models with automatic transmission).
The changes by comparison with the B20F 118/118 engine are as follows:
-pistons and piston rings
-camshaft
-crankshaft and bearings
-piston rods
-no under–crown cooling
-inlet manifold
-throttle valve housing without basic setting screw (running change)
-5.7 litres oil capacity (incl. filter)
-Oil dipstick with green coloured handle and 2.2 litres difference between max–min marks.
