So, use it like a manual; I do. I'm not going to let some auto box tell me, a member of the High Performance Club, which gear to be in. On the other hand, it's so relaxing in town; best of both worlds.

Re: How do you get the back off the dash?

My guess would be, not de-soldered fully. I'm told that the soldering of these pins was an approved Volvo mod. If all else fails, I've got a complete (working) instrument panel, grey/green; it's in the For Sale section.

Re: Wet passenger carpet

The one with the cap is the relay box. There should be 2 of those drains, which do tend to block. They have a little flap at the bottom, which I've cut off: now they don't block as easily.
Your air intake looks normal.

Re: Windscreen Washers

[OT] I never heard of headlamp washers on a 480. Is it compulsory in Danmark? Where are the located? Yes, they are there on mine, & they work. Not much good though. You can see the jets when you raise the headlamps. They only work when the headlamps are raised & I think it's a CEM function since th...

Re: Plastic clip on seat belt

Sewing a button on is going to do less damage than fitting the original part, which makes an actual hole in the webbing. Rachel, just ask your dealer to post you one; they only cost pennies. Oh, and if anyone offers you a secondhand one, forget it; from memory it's a one-time fitting & once it's tak...

Complete instrument panel

Mileage, just over 86,000 Tested & all instruments working. Plugs are green & grey. The halogen bulb for the infocenter illumination is missing. This is from a pre-airbag car. It will work perfectly well in an airbag car, but the SRS light will be on. £25 + £5.50 U.K. parcel post (3 days) PM if inte...

Re: pop-ups won't pop up (half light won't light up)

I second Captain Slow's recommendation about the DRL's; if they don't operate correctly, that will interfere with your pop-ups. In the engine bay, there are several loose wires which look as if they ought to connect to something: in fact, they're test points so it could be one of those.

Probably one of the multi-plugs at the back. Remove them & use contact cleaner on them before replacing.

Re: Project 480 ES

Guess what Volvo doesn't make any more? Yep, that headlamp relay, part 3412653. I phoned them up, they quoted me £28.40 plus VAT ... then said it was discontinued. Meh, damn Volvo, they really should be supporting these old cars. We'll try a scrap yard and/or find someone to make it then! I'm sure...
