Re: Power steering pump - interchangeability
I think the only difference is due to AC or no AC. And that is probably just a matter of changing the pulley.

Re: Rear wiper
I only paid €40 at the time. But on the dutch480 forum I read that Volvo raised the price last month to an unbelievable €166 ex vat!!! I hope that Volvo UK still quotes the old price. Ask for volvoparts# 3449998. If you go to this topic you can see some pics I posted howto remove the big connect...

Re: Starting problems -- PLEASE HELP !!
Here is a drawing at which pins you have to measure the resistance from the MAF (luftmengenmesser). I only have it available in German, but the pics and resistance values speak for themselve I hope! The 382 ohms is just a starting point, most turbo's have the resistance set higher for better power a...

Re: Starting problems -- PLEASE HELP !!
Maybe a too high resistance in the wiring, this will feed the ecu with the wrong info. Would explain that the sensor is influencing the idle, but not right enbough to start it when hot.
I haven't read the whole topic, but did you also checked the MAF sensor and the airintake temp sensor?

Exactly, why wouldn´t you want to check it? Start eliminating everything.glasgowjim wrote:Just an outside chance check the wiring to the cold start sensor for continuity . Eliminates 1 possibility.

Re: Starting problems -- PLEASE HELP !!
Did you check the wiring/connector from the coldstartsensor? Looks to me something is wrong with it, seems that the ecu isn't getting the info from the sensor when the engine is hot. The coldstartsensor from a turbo is different from a N/A engine as it provides a signal to both ecu's.

That's the aircooler for the injectors. If it still cools is another question.. Can you hear the fan blowing when the engine is hot?

Re: Problem with Info Centre
Probably the MFU on the back of the infocentre is broken or has a bad connector. The MFU calculates the fuelconsumption from the info coming from the ecu and speedo sensor.

Re: color matched cem´s
That are no CEM's. The cem (central electronical module) controle electrical things like rearwindow heating, wipers, blinkers, alarm, electrical windows etc but have nothing to do with the engine management and are only used in the 480 like bkf_uk said. The boost and fuel ecu's can be replaced for t...

The CEM is above the handle for the hood release, behind the plastic cover.

When was the distribution last replaced? Could be the rollers you're hearing, if that is the case replace the distr. asap.

Re: B18U/B20Fchain driven oil pump engines?
Wow, that's easy earned! I'm used to lower prices at the R dealer, this time it's the otherway round. Maybe the oilpump is cheaper at the R dealer, though I'm not sure if the 13gear pump is a pure Volvo upgrade.

Here's a drawing of the upgraded B20F&B18U oilpumpgear and the other B18's gear from the engine manual. I only have it available in german. But the drawings speak for themself, all oilpumps are geardriven.

Re: B18U/B20Fchain driven oil pump engines?
The Volvo 1721cc B18's are the same as the multipoint F3P 8v Renault engines, the 8v B20F is the F3R from memory. (The turbo versions where tuned and strenghtend for Volvo by Porsche to 170hp, Volvo detuned them to 120hp by the way.)So no chain driven oilpump. In the B20F (and B18U but that monopoin...

I know dutch forummember Auk has an extensive 480 brochure library. But he doesn't visit the forum that much anymore, his latest inlog here was january. I will send him a pm through the dutch volvo480forum.com for you, he's one of the moderators there.

You can find info regarding (racing) cams in the tuning and tweaking board. See for example this topic. regarding the B18E cam. Seems not too promising.

Re: Chronic idle problems URGENT
Maybe an airleak from the throttle body, did you use a new gasket? Is the Thr.pos.sensor adjusted according the "click" method? With the slightest opening of the throttle you should hear the TPS click, that is the right position. Sure that no solvent entered the TPS while cleaning the thr.body? Thro...

Re: Chronic idle problems URGENT
looks like the ICV is getting the wrong input from the ecu. If you pull the connector the ICV closes and the rpm lowers, Am I correct? If so it must be the culprit, the ecu keeps the ICV fully open. Maybe some short in the wiring from the ECU or it's connector? The readings for the lambda are in the...
