I have driven quite a few times in an 406 V6 (saloon, not coupe) with automatic and apart for blowing its coil on plugs it was dead reliable and economical too. The B18FT uses Bosch LH and EZK ecus. The 24V version is very sweet and the latter ones can achieve 250hp (Renault Clio V6 spec). So that might be an option. An other option might to supercharge it.
