Re: Pulling to the left
Something else to check is your wishbone bushes. One of my 480's would pull to the right on acceleration, and then pull the left when not accelerating. Gear changes when accelerating would produce an interesting 'shimmy' effect. This would happen with the steering wheel pointing directly ahead, and ...

Re: Throttle cable electric connector?
Sorry - just re-read the original post. Ignore what I said - I was thinking of the switch on the throttle body. James is correct - it's a switch to signal the CEM that the wiper speed should be increased, and air-con compressor disengaged (if it has air-con).

Re: Throttle cable electric connector?
I seem to remember something similar from the B18E engine in the 89 480 I had many years ago. I'm fairly certqin the switch was a signal for the ECU so it knew when it was supposed to be controlling the idle.

Re: Faulty VEM = Fixed! ... and air-con works now too!
Just thought I'd do one of my random 480 forum checks, despite not having owned a 480 for about 6 years now and was very surprised to find one of my original posts at the top of the General section! Does the 480 have a 'resistor-pack' somewhere in the dashboard airflow? If so, I've had cars (non-480...

Re: Moon Roof Pins
Hi, I'd be happy to take them off your hands if you don't want them, assuming you can find them :D I went hunting in my parent's garage this weekend and I've found one. It's brand new, never been used. If you let me know your address, I'll pop it in the post for you. As they're now unavailable, I'v...

Re: Moon Roof Pins
I think I still have a pair of these, brand-new in my parent's garage. I seem to remember seeing them a couple of years back when clearing it out and doubt they got thrown away. Finding them again will be another matter entirely though! I'll have a look if I remember at the weekend.

Re: Hissing VEM!
I seem to remember (from many years ago!) that there is a vacuum line which run behind the VEM, and is used for repositioning the vents. I'm guessing that the 20+ year-old rubber connections will have perished and need replacing. If you're going to the effort of removing it entirely to replace it, t...

Re: RIP Steve - you'll be greatly missed
Exactly the same here - I occasionally glance back here to see what's going on in the 480 world and was shocked to see this topic. I met Steve a couple of times, one time I remember in particular where I drove over to Swaffham and we parked up my 480 and "the charger" side-by-side and then proceeded...

Re: eBay watch!
Ah - that's a different one again then. Under the 'old' (pre-2001) registration system, the last two letters could be used to identify where the car was registered. See here for a list of places. It looks like ending in "UD" was located in Oxford. I'm guessing there was a particularly successful Vol...

Re: eBay watch!
I used to own (amongst several other 480's) a black 480 Turbo auto about 5 years ago with the registration M767 SUD. Not this one on eBay, but another similar numberplate. Just wondered if this could now be in Jim's hands!? I know there were a lot of SUD's out there though.

Re: Horn MOT Fail
My reason for asking about the alarm is that all 480's have a basic alarm built into them from the factory, controlled by the CEM. It works on the principal that if you lock the car from the drivers door (not sure about passenger), the alarm is activated (can't remember if it's activated straight aw...

Re: Horn MOT Fail
Thanks Jim. So is there a relay somewhere ? There is, but it's not very easily accessible. It's soldered inside the CEM - or it certainly was on the older 480's with the original CEM's. I assume the CEM III (which is what a 95 will have) has the relay inside it too. Does the alarm work? That will h...

This guy might have what you need: http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=pfsw&thread=82368 I saw this advertised for spares on RetroRides the other day, but I think a K-reg 1993 might be CEMIII, not the original CEM as you'd need. Might be worth contacting the guy to find ou...

Re: Steering column play
I remember having this on one of my 480's. I didn't ever get round to fixing it before selling, and it was never an MOT issue, but I can confirm at least one other car to have had the same wear in the universal joint. I think it's a replacement column - I don't think (from memory) that the UJ comes ...

Re: WANTED: Front springs and rear drop-links
I think I've got some springs at my parent's house from my old 480. I can't remember if they're front or back, or both. I won't be able to check until the weekend, but if you haven't had any offers from anyone else by then, I'll take a look.

Re: C30 Vs 480
That 480 (2-litre ES) was for sale recently. I went to look at it with a friend who was after a 480 at the time, and wanted advice on what to look for. The owner wasn't particularly accomodating with us. He wouldn't allow us to test drive it, even though my insurance would have covered it, which was...

Re: Oil separator removal on a B20F engine
I wasn't replacing mine - just cleaning it. I don't remember having to use a hammer to put it back in, but knowing me, I probably did! There isn't any kind of latch/clipping mechanism holding it in place. I didn't have any issues with it coming off again by mistake afterwards either.
